Florida resident can’t get a two week vacation?

vacation holidays

Okay - so I’ve been working as a sheet metal shop fabricator at a privately owned shop for four years. I get one paid week of vacation per year. I asked my boss last year when I get two weeks - he said” in ten years. ” I was shocked. He says - ” Well - I pay you for holidays” Anyway - I talked to another coworker who says he’s been there for nine years and told me that we never get two weeks. What is an American Florida citizen to do to get a standard benefit like this? My bosses are very wealthy - drive multiple expensive vehicles, and both have two gigantic houses each. There are no laws governing employee benefits in Florida. There are only 8 states that have laws requiring breaks - which Florida is not one of. We only take one hour of a non-paid lunch in a 9.5 hour day. Any suggestions besides writing to Congress?

  1. Not at all. Save your money. Invest it wisely and retire early. I worked at a convenience store for 21 years. Never got a break and didn’t complain. I followed my own advice and at 54 I am retired. I will be going on a cruise next month and enjoying myself.

  2. Paid vacation is a fringe benefit and is not regulated so you are kinda stuck unless you change jobs or unionize.

  3. My husband is a small business owner. We have not had a vacation for 10+ years. If you do not like your company’s policies, find another job. I bet someone could use your job.
